Artist Statement

"Let the beauty we love, be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground" - Rumi There are moments each day when I am struck by the beauty and wonder of the natural world around me. Whether a landscape, a city scene, a child at play or a simple still life, the effect of light and color on atmosphere or object is a source of endless joy and fascination for me. Capturing these impressions on canvas has become a passion and putting brush to canvas everyday is a chance to revisit the beauty and wonder of each experience. My goal as an artist is to evoke an emotional response from the viewer as well, by means of fresh spontaneous brushstroke, light and color. I grew up in the beautiful state of Wisconsin near Lake Michigan and I believe that I have always been in awe of the effect and interplay of light and color on water and land. I have lived in the southeast for the past twenty-nine years, the last twenty in Charlotte, NC. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a former teacher my study, observation, and practice of painting is on-going and includes coursework at Queens University of Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, a variety of workshops and extensive study with nationally acclaimed artist Andy Braitman.
